A living expression of light, energy and motion.
About
A space to meet yourself
Hue-Man Universe is a participatory, contemplative artwork in which you look at your own experience through colour and light, sound and language. A human figure made of light unfolds through thirteen colours; you meet each colour’s sentence and listen to your body and mind as they are now. What you answer carries on into colour and movement, and makes the encounter of that day.
Rest on a light to read it
The work asks whether time spent listening to your own experience can carry over into the way you meet an ordinary day.
Your inner universe is the living room of sensation and feeling, memory and thought, imagination and possibility. Your outer universe is the world you meet: other people, nature, culture, circumstance. You live under the world’s influence, and through speaking, acting and making you reach that world in return.
The work offers a moment to look at that relationship. In noticing what you feel and what you would choose, you are invited to find your own way of taking part in your life.
The artist’s painting, moving image and installation work, and her studies in meditation counselling psychology, Aura-Soma and mandala practice, are the ground this stands on. Circles and spirals, and the movement of water and light, are the visual language in which she explores the connections she finds between the body, nature and inner experience.
The sentences held in the thirteen colours touch many sides of a life: caring for the body, feeling what is felt, being in relationship, giving yourself expression. The symbolism of a colour is a thread for looking, not a key. The same colour may call up a different memory, and a different feeling, in each person.
You stay a moment with a colour and its sound, read the sentence slowly, and look at how it comes to you as you are now. When you choose a response, its trace takes form in colour and movement. From meeting the sentence to what you notice after choosing, the whole of that passage is part of the work.
The finished colour map gathers the day’s answers. What you would look at further, and what you carry into your day, is yours to decide.
The work keeps artistic symbol, felt experience and what research has shown apart from one another. Colour and geometry are not used here to measure a body, a personality, or anyone’s spiritual progress.
Attunement is the slower journey, staying with colour and sentence. You press a light to meet a sentence, and read it aloud or within. One sentence can become a small mantra, a place to gather for a moment.
Read slowly—aloud or within.
Before you choose, feel how the sentence
comes to you.
Some sentences arrive familiar and kind, others strange or uncomfortable. Feeling very little is fine too. There is no need to agree with a sentence; what you notice while reading it is what is being looked at.
Check-in is time spent looking at today’s body and mind through sentences. You can begin lightly with thirteen, or look further with fifty-two. What holds you up, what weighs on you, and what is asking for more of your attention may all come into view.
Begin where you are drawn, and stay at your own pace. Skip a question, change an answer, or stop whenever you wish.
When the answers gather, the day’s experience can be looked at in colour and movement. A sentence left unanswered is kept out of the reckoning, and a colour not yet answered is marked as its own.
Spend a moment with the map, wherever the eye goes. See whether anything surprises you, or whether there is a sentence you want to read again, and change your answer if you need to.
At the end of the journey a note comes, holding a small practice tied to the colour: feeling the body for a moment, making something, offering care to yourself or to someone else. Take as much of it as suits the life you are in.
You might carry one sentence that stayed with you, and one small thing you would like to try. Having listened to yourself for a while is enough to close the journey with.
Yoon (Seong Yoon Hong) is a Korean multidisciplinary artist working under the name Yoon1verse. Through painting, moving image, installation and participatory experiences, she explores the relationships between material form and inner life, the individual and the wider universe.
Water, light, circles and spirals recur throughout her practice. Drawn to patterns that echo across bodies, living organisms and landscapes, she works with fluid colour and geometric structures to explore how forms emerge, change and remain in relationship. Art becomes a practice of looking closely—at nature, at experience and at the connections between them.
Her studies in meditation counselling psychology, Aura-Soma and mandala practices deepen this inquiry into perception and self-understanding. Hue-Man Universe extends it into a contemplative environment where colour, language and personal response become artistic materials. Participants are invited to notice their own experience and consider how it finds expression in the world.
Hue-Man Universe is open to thoughtful collaboration.
I welcome conversations with artists, creative technologists, sound practitioners, curators, researchers and cultural spaces interested in colour, perception and contemplative participation. Possibilities include small shared experiments, exhibitions, residencies, workshops and research.
If the work connects with something you are exploring, I would be glad to hear from you.
Hue-Man Universe is an independent artwork, unaffiliated with Aura-Soma. It has not been clinically evaluated and does not provide psychological assessment or treatment. What the sound is made of, and what research does and does not support, is set out under “About the sound and the light” on the Attunement screen.
